Shawna heard Jazz on the phone half an hour later. He was still making calls. She grit her teeth. How many damn women had he been sleeping with? She raised her hand to knock on his door as Jazz’s voice carried into the hallway.

“Yeah, well, that’s how it is, Marla. You know how these things go. I found my mate.” He sounded so proud. “She’s amazing. I love her more than life.”

Shawna knocked before she heard something else. If only Jazz wasn’t so damn charming about the whole thing. It made it hard to be mad at him.

She heard Jazz saying goodbye before the door opened and he peaked around it. “Hi.” A small smile tugged at his lips. “I’m almost done.”

“Almost? How many women are you calling?” She held up her hands. “Or maybe I shouldn’t know.”

Jazz reached out and grabbed her around the waist, pulling her to his chest. “Babe…”

“Don’t babe me. I’m mad.” She tried to wiggle out of his hold, but Jazz wasn’t letting go. He just held her tighter when she turned in his arms, showing Jazz her back. “I can’t help it. If I slept with men in numbers that equaled a football team, you’d be pissed off too. I probably need an STD test instead of dinner.”

“I don’t have STDs. I can’t catch them. I’m a shifter. You know we’re immune to human disease. And I’m sorry. I was a single guy. Single. You know werewolves have a high sex drive. It’s all done and over with now.” He squeezed her affectionately from behind. “I’ve called all but one. They know I belong to you. I told them there’s never going to be another woman in my life, and that’s exactly how I want it. You know you believe me.”

“Maybe.” She looked up at him over her shoulder. “Are there any women in this town that you haven’t slept with?”

“Plenty. I usually saw women from other territories. It kept things less complicated—or so I’d thought.”

She sighed.

“Shawna, I believed you were dead, and I had sworn to never take a mate.” Jazz sounded a little desperate. “I never realized my sex life was going to come back and bite me in the ass. I’m going to be apologizing for the next decade, aren’t I?”

She relaxed in his arms. “I don’t know—maybe.”

He buried his face in the curve of her neck, hugging her tighter. “Look on the bright side.”

“I can’t wait to hear this one. Go ahead.”

“Practice makes perfect—so I’m a really fantastic lover for you.”

She snorted. “Great.”

He spun her in his arms and lifted her so she was facing him. He was grinning. “Maybe I should distract you from being mad.”

“I’m going to the store. Put me down.”

“Okay.” Unfazed, he kept carrying her down the hallway instead.

She turned her head, watching where he was walking them. “Where are we going?”

“Family room.”

“I see that. Why?”

He grinned. “Because I’ve missed you and I love you.”

“I said, put me down.” She gripped his shoulders. “I’m buying new locks today and you’re going to put them on.
